What is PMS? It is a name given to the time before your actual period when your body is in hormonal meltdown, every emotion is more intense and chocolate is more than just your best friend, it is your life line. Your clothes do not fit and you feel so tired… all the time. A migraine sometimes joins the party and makes life even more aggravating.

No one can really explain the actual cause of migraines or how the body and brain responds to the event. One thing is certain is that our of all the migraine sufferers there are three times as many women as opposed to men who experience this affliction. Many of these female migraine sufferers admit to having them just before their red visitor or during their messy stay.

Studies have shown that a staggering sixty percent of most female migraine sufferers have their migraines before AND after their menstrual cycle. These studies have also shown that fourteen percent of these women have their migraines only during their period. A study should that these women referred to these headaches at this time of the month as ‘menstrual migraines’. If you add these percentages together that implies that there is seventy four percent of all female migraine sufferers that do link their period to their affliction, medical research does not deny or confirm such a connection and the reason is still unclear but it does manifest more in women with pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS) or during their menses.

Some women have confessed to migraines as they got older and complained that the pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS) symptoms got much worse when having these headaches. A study was cast in 2006 and confirmed that the women migraineurs that took part in this research had more severe cases of boating, they gained more weight, breasts were more tender, backs hurt more than usual, cramping was worse and the mood swings were erratic to say the least. These woman migraineurs who took part in this study were then treated with meds that temporarily faked menopause by stopping the ovaries from doing their thing.

While these meds did effectively halt the hormonal imbalance that is associated with periods, these women still complained that their pre-menstrual syndrome symptoms worsened while having one of their migraines.

It is terrible thing to have to suffer most of the month with migraines but to suffer with these and other afflictions as well makes you want to never get out of bed. There is thankfully meds that can be taken to lessen the effects of these aches and pains, anti- inflammatory meds like ibuprofen are pretty effective at alleviating some of the pain.

When it gets too much just try believing in reincarnation and that one day life can be less vexing… be sent back a man…
